- 2 cloves minced garlic
- 1 tbsp oregano
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- to taste salt
- to taste pepper
- 4 pieces soft pita bread
- 2 medium fresh tomatoes (sliced)
- 1 medium red onion (sliced)
- 1 cup lettuce (shredded)
- 1 cup Greek yogurt
- 1/4 cup grape juice or apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup chicken broth
- to taste salt
- to taste pepper
- to taste oregano
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine your sliced beef with olive oil, minced garlic, oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Let it marinate for at least one hour, or overnight in the fridge for deeper flavor.
- Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook the marinated beef for about 5-7 minutes until browned and cooked through, stirring occasionally.
- In a small bowl, mix Greek yogurt with grape juice or apple cider vinegar and chicken broth. Add a pinch of salt, pepper, and a sprinkle of oregano. Adjust to taste if you want it creamier or more tangy.
- Warm the pita bread in a dry skillet or wrap in foil and heat in the oven for a few minutes until soft.
- On each pita, layer the cooked beef, fresh tomatoes, red onions, and lettuce. Drizzle with your homemade Metaxasosse generously.
- Fold the pita around the fillings, and you can wrap it in parchment paper for easier handling. Enjoy your homemade gyros!
